Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the biggest UK launch this year

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was officially released May 12, 2023 for the Nintendo Switch. For the Zelda series it cited to be the 8th biggest Zelda release of all time. According to UK sales figures for this year, it's also the biggest launch of 2023. Even surpassing Hogwarts Legacy and Jedi Survivor.

With the success of the latest Zelda game, how does the launch figures hold up to its predecessors?

Highest Grossing Zelda Games (UK, 1st Week sales, Physical copies):

1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

3. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

4. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

5. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Out of the top five Zelda games in the UK, the latest Tears of the Kingdom comes out on top with their first week of physical sales in the UK

Although, compared to the latest game, Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom still has a ways to go before surpassing its predecessor. The first week of Breath of the Wild's release, the sale boosted up to around 1.49 million units. In just the opening weekend of Tears of the Kingdom (in France alone) the game sold around 500,000 copies. Accounting for sales globally, Tears of the Kingdom should be right around the Breath of the Wild in terms of both physical and digital sales.

When it comes to the previous games releasing this year, such as Hogwarts Legacy, there is no doubt Tears of the Kingdom has dominated and will continue to dominate this years releases.

When it comes to Hogwarts Legacy, Tears of the Kingdom has greater sales of about 54%. The Resident Evil 4 Remake also sits around 4 million copies sold as of April. With it still being the opening days of Tears of the Kingdom, we could potentially see this game becoming the highest selling game of the year.
