Xbox Live was first credited with the release of Halo 2. It revolutionized cooperative gaming by allowing players to be connected across the world. Previously, the only way to play with a group of people was to set up a lan party. An ancient way where you had to have multiple consoles to connect in a single house to play with multiple people. Xbox Live was the first video game subscription to globally bring players together in online matches.
This September (the 14th), Xbox Live is being replaced with another familiar subscription the Xbox also pioneered.
Game Pass Core
Although, this is technically not a new service, it connects both the game pass and Xbox Live into one subscription. With this change, Xbox's monthly games with gold are no more. With the growing library of the Game Pass, Microsoft no longer sees it necessary to include just three game a month as well as Game Pass.
The subscription itself starts out at just $9.99 a month. You'd also be happy to know that this lowest subscription also includes online play. Here is the official blog post on the Xbox website!
