Moon Studios not developing Ori 3; speculation on who might be

Moon Studios was founded in 2010 and has only ever produced two games. Those being Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, they worked under their publisher Microsoft and have garnered some degree of success. However, towards the end of last year it was speculated that Ori 3 was in fact in development but Moon Studios were not the ones making it. The speculation of Moon Studios splitting from Microsoft came with supported allegations of harassment and bullying by the cofounder of the studio towards "Xbox teams" (context).

So if Moon Studios is not coming back then who could be making Ori 3?

My picks

I think Double Fine Productions would make a solid Ori 3. They are the maker of the Psychonauts games (both 1 and 2). Also, they developed Broken Age. Their skills in 2D/3D artwork and worlds is impressive and they could bring a lot to the table in terms of the art style of Ori 3.

Compulsion Games would be my second choice. I'm specifically referencing the game Contrast they released in 2013. That game had similar 2D/3D level design that would work well in the Ori world. While, their games do feature predominately 3D worlds, they always manage to mix in this interesting element of art style that reminds me of Ori. Their most recent game, We Happy Few, features vibrant and unique level designs.

Already in development (speculation)

Ever since the split of Moon Studios away from Microsoft, speculation has started like wild fire. (context). Since this is speculated that a new studio is making Ori 3, not much is really known about the plot and direction of the game. We don't even know what studio is making it so I'd be surprised if anyone knows what the game is even about.

Either way, whoever makes it, I hope they capture the essence of what made the first game unique and the refinement of the second games' mechanics. Ori 3 can be the best of both worlds of the two games and I hope it's a success.
