On the 12th of July, 343 released an update to the long-standing Halo MCC. This update was six months in the making and it's potentially the last major content update ever for MCC. If that's the case, they surely left off on a wonderful note!
Playlist Update
Escalation slayer is making it's way over to Halo 3. You may recognize this game mode from Halo Infinite. It essentially acts as a gun game with weapon progressions through kills until you've used every weapon in the sandbox. This was meant to come sooner (alongside Halo Reach, 4 and 2) but was technically difficult as Halo 3's legacy engine was limited. Now with 343 creating the engine on it's own, separate from mainline Halo 3, they worked to create, "an experience which is more polished and much more customizable."
Patch Note Headlines
Halo 4 Campaign & Spartan Ops Theater
Feet First Into Firefight (8 player firefight!)
A Feast of Features (customizable controller mappings)
Background Video Selection (Full release including mod support)
Moa Madness (moa statues in Halo 2)
Restored Content
We are finally able to play the infamous Macworld 1999 Halo build. The first ever gameplay reveal we've ever seen is now fully playable thanks to the restoration and implementation into the MCC. It's worth noting that this is only playable on PC as steam allows you to download and play this mod on the Steam Workshop. (You can find it here). This mod is a fully playable mission that was the demo we saw all the way back in 1999.
There is also a fully playable test world developed and published by the Digestive team. It can be downloaded here. You'll find everything from drivable vehicles to useable weapons and even the Drinol (Sharquoi).
