This review will cover the new mechanics and QOL changed added to the game and will not cover the new story expansion.
A.I finally feels like Artificial Intelligence
Before this update, the A.I. in this game just felt off. It diffidently wasn't up to the standard that The Witcher 3 has set in 2015. A perfect example of this was the police system. Before the update, unlike Rockstars popular formula of the 5 star police system, the cops in the game didn't really put up much of a fight. You could cause mayhem and destruction and only and handful of policeman showed up with pistols. Better yet, you could just drive away from them and their pursuit would be over. They wouldn't follow you.
In this update though, taking inspiration from Rockstar Games, there is finally a worthy combat system to the police and they can actually put up a fight. This goes for pretty much every physical altercation with the NPCs, they feel like they are actually interacting and changing towards the player actions. However, this isn't the case every time as some of them still curl into the fettle position whenever you cause a disturbance.
Improved combat
With the improvement of smarter A.I. comes one of the best improvements overall, the actual combat loop. With the implementation of a skill tree, the moment to moment gameplay actually feels like a progression with a thrill of new things to try. A perfect example of this is the new mele executions in the skill tree. Provided you level up tat path, the executions completely change the way mele weapons feel and give you a sense of "video gaming." A sense where, instead of an npc just falling to the ground, you could do a slow motion slice.
The vehicle combat is also a noteworthy change of pace for the game. Not only do armored and patrol vehicles follow you, they also try and actually kill you. It makes for a more thrilling experience with a threat that actually shoots at your tires and sets up road blocks to stop your car.
Overall
The combat changes alone make the game unrecognizable from it's launch state. It's pretty clear that, like most modern AAA titles, this game need more time in the oven. While, I can say this is obviously a welcome update, the game should have just launched like this (like everyone has been saying about most modern titles).
