Amnesia: The Bunker is getting a new difficulty mode and a ton of new features!

Thanks to tweets from the Creative Lead over at Frictional Games, we now know exactly what's to come in the new (free) update for Amnesia: the Bunker just in time for Halloween! This new update will bring brand new, more hardcore, gameplay changes and systems. Don't worry though all of these features will be optional and won't change the base game. Instead, the new changes come in a new difficulty mode and possibly a custom difficulty mode (as teased by the Creative Lead at Frictional Games).

Missing Lockers

The important lockers that house key items and supplies such as bandages, wheels, and ammunition are now randomly spread out across the sub-level area of the bunker. This seems to be procedurally generated so, although not all the time, the same locker won't spawn in the exact same place twice.

Randomly Spawned Resources

New boxes are going to be spawned throughout the bunker that contain a random amount of resources such as bandages, grenades, the pistol and ammo. Like the lockers, loot will be cycled and changed with each playthrough.

No Starting Pistol

This is added as another alternative to the randomly placed resources and lockers. This is so, if you want, you have the choice of going full randomizer and start out with nothing. Or, you could keep your trusty pistol as a crutch.

Random Corpse and Dog Tag Locations

This setting will (as it says) randomize the locations of the rat traps and dog tag locations with each playthrough. It's worth noting that, for all of the randomizers, it will change with each new playthrough. It's not like it changes to just another stock location you can memorize again.

No Safe Room

Although, the same room will still be used and accessible to the player, there's a catch. You are no longer secured with the metal door and the monster, should it be chasing you, can break down the door and enter the safe room.

No Pause When In Inventory

This update gets rid of the crutch mechanic of being able to pause the game when in your inventory. Forcing the player to be quick on their feet and get what you need out then run.

Increased Stalker Unpredictability

There is a separate setting that changes the Stalker's playstyle drastically. As if it wasn't already stressful enough with how smart he can be when investigating a noise. This toggle would make him presumably faster, will linger longer and could have a wider search area when investigating a noise.

Hardcore Health System

This new health system will be more taxing and will require immediate attention. Now, once you are bleeding, you will keep bleeding until you eventually die. Applying bandages doesn't actually heal you, instead, they just stop the bleeding. While medkits will stop the bleeding entirely and restore your health.

Random Fuse Locations

At the start of the game, there is a certain order in which you complete and unlock your way through the bunker. No more, as with each new playthrough there will be a randomly open section. In that section, there will be a random fuse for the other locals in the bunker. So, no order is the same and no faster than the others.

This update adds a pretty extensive list of experimental features. Don't forget that you can mix and match all of the options for a unique experience. This was all the information that was provided from the Creative Lead Fredrik Olsson. You can click this link to read his Tweets and get more information on these new features and the update as a whole. We don't have an exact release date, the only thing we know is that it's coming in time for Halloween.

I will be sure to do an in-depth review of these new features once it has released.
